A BRIEF NOTE ON HANUMAN AND AKSHARAS (SYLLABLES).
In the Tantrik context to specify certain seed - syllables (bijaksharas) to represent the deities that are invoked or sought t
o be propitiated. It is also usual for the seed-syllables to be, in a large number of cases, the initial letters of the names of the deities. There are however, seed-syllables independently symbolizing the elements and forces.
Thus `HAM` (हं) is the seed-syllable representing Hanuman, and this seed - syllable also symbolizes sky or space (akasa) .HA is the first letter in the common name of Hanuman,it is transformed into a seed-syllable by adding the mystic anusvara ( am, representing the lunar energy ) to it it becomes `HAM` (हं).When the symbol of fire (Agni,ra) is added to it, it becomes `HRAM` (ह्रं). And to make it further filled with feminine energy of creativity, IM (which represents sakti) is added, it now assumes the form of `HREEM` ( ह्रीं)
The long vowel endings a, I,and u make the triple maya - bija.
HRAAM HREEM HROOM
These three seed-syllables are together considered powerful representations of any deity invoked to protect or destroy. This is especially employed with regard to HANUMAN.
