INTELLIGENCE AND WISDOM OF HANUMAN.
According to the texts, Ravana, in order to achieve success in the war against Rama, had organized a YAGNA to please the goddess Chandi. Had that Yagna been completed, Ravana would certainly have won the war. But Hanuman came to know of the evil designs of Ravana. He, therefore, in order to sabotage the Yagna, joined the group of Brahmanas who were engaged by Ravana for the accomplishment of the feat. With his selfless devotion, he pleased immensely all of them, who wanted Hanuman to ask for a boon, who evaded them for sometime. When pressed by the brahmanas to ask for a boon, He prayed them slightly to change the recitation of the Mantra by substituting a single letter क for ह. The brahmanas were reciting the following Mantra -
जय त्वं देवि चामुण्डे जय भूतार्तिहारिणि
जय सर्वगते देवि नारायणि नमोस्तुते ।।
The innocent Brahmanas agreed to the prayer of Hanuman and started reciting the Mantra as भूतार्तिकारिणि instead of भूतार्तिहारिणि. This slight change at the behest of Hanuman proved disastrous for Ravana.
