VINAYAM OF HANUMAN

OM SRI HANUMATHE RAMA SEVAKAAYA NAMAHA.

VINAYAM OF HANUMAN

The portrayal of Hanuman in Kamba Ramayana as the incarnation of Vinaya is quite interesting. There is an episode recorded in the Tamil texts according to which Rama during His coronation made many presents to all those who helped Him in His war against Ravana. When the turn of Hanuman came, Rama could not adequately express His gratitude to the great Hero. Narrating Maruti's great valour and help,Rama said, I can only offer myself as a present for your sincere devotion and service. So saying He asked Hanuman to embrace Him. Hanuman, the embodiment of wisdom, service, valour and heroism, stood modestly by the side of his master with his head slightly bent covering His mouth with His palm. This picture of Hanuman as the very incarnation of Vinaya is a noteworthy feature of Kamban in his Tamil Ramayana. This aspect of Hanuman is projected in many bronze images of the 10th and 11th century A.D.
